by Matthias Mineur (04/03) If you look for the ideals of Marilyn Manson you'll have to go deep into the history of rock music. Optically you could surely guess Alice Cooper or also the early David Bowie. Musically, the American poaches in Glam Rock, mixes it with Metal and Crossover even incorporates cool Techno/Industrial-sounds in the like of Nine Inch Nails. All that is brought together so skilfully that also for "The Golden Age Of Grotesque" you can speak of a typical MM-album. The guitars are howling, Manson adds sensational passwords of his philosophy of life, the drummer keeps the MTV-direction and producer Tim Skold provides a sound that fits all locations. So "The Golden Age Of Grotesque" is the most subtle kind of mainstream - Metal-Fans will bang their heads in delight, Pop fans are fascinated by the androgen outer of the shrill musician and the charts have waited in anticipation for him.
