by Benedikt Niederschmid (15.01.2001) Three weeks after the release of "Hybrid theory" in the U.S., it had reached Γ¬ Gold status already! Reason enough to listen to what kind of new heroes have Γ¬ been chosen in the States this time. And indeed, the debut of Linkin Park Γ¬ should hit this side of the Atlantic like a bomb, too. "Hybrid theory" is a Γ¬ completely succeeded and loveable Metal-package. The guys around shouter Γ¬ Chester Bennington and MC Mike Shinoda combine influences of modern New-Γ¬ Metal-disciplines ("By myself"), traditional Rap Metal and melodies that Γ¬ sometimes remind me of the all-too-clear compositions of the 80's Γ¬ ("Runaway") to one sovereign and emotional cocktail. For the powerful Γ¬ groove-shell "With you", Linkin Park were assisted by the Dust Brothers Γ¬ (e.g. Soundtrack for "Fight Club"). And despite their love for the Γ¬ possibilkies of modern sampling, electronics do not play a major role on Γ¬ this album. The main protagonist is the complete work - and that has Γ¬ definitely convinced me! (Benedikt Niederschmid - 02/01)
