by Antonia Sawade (03/10) "Sounds like a light version of Slayer" was what I initially thought after Γ¬ listening to the second Lamb Of God album. But is there a single sentence to Γ¬ summarize this album? The professor, Devin Townsend still forces this rough Γ¬ HateMetalCore bastard into a dry corset that leaves no space for ups and downs. Is that a problem? I don't think so. Always straight into the face is Γ¬ what songs, like "Purified" do. You are almost frightened by the more Γ¬ distinctive melodies in "11th hour" or in "Blood Junkie". And characteristically Γ¬ or not, the best song, "Vigil" is placed at the end of the album. But what Γ¬ exactly do Lamb Of God want to tell us? At least we should admit envylessly that the Γ¬ Americans exactly know how to write this type of songs. There ain't no lack of ideas, Γ¬ the production is dry but fat. Maybe I just expected too much after the highly Γ¬ acclaimed debut, "New American Gospel". Maybe I expected an answer to the omnipresent and strong Scandinavians in the genre. Whatever: probably not a winner, but at least a draw, so: thumbs up! Γ¬ (Antonia Sawade - 03/10)
